Ostomys
52TYPES
There are 3 types of Ostomys; Colostomy, ILeostomy and Urostomy. Each one is designed to give the receiver a better quality of life.
Colostomy is where your large intestine is surgically cut and rerouted to your abdomen where you now have a bag attached. Your pooh would be formed or soft.
ILeostomy is surgery to your small intestine. You would require a bag for this also and your pooh would be watery not formed.
Urostomy is surgery to reroute your bladder which attaches a tube to it and leads to a bag which you empty.
All of these procedures are attached to your belly area with a wafer. There is a Stoma which the wafer goes around to cover it. Many people have these and for many different reasons but the end goal is to make life better.
Better Life
Quality of Life
Since I had my operation the qulity of my life has much improved. While my surgery is reversible many peoples are not. There is also a great website I found for people with medical questions called Inspire. I am pain free now from my Diverticulitis, also no more antibiotics every other month.
Even though I have a bag now hooked to my side there are ways of hiding it and there are many advancements in this field. There are panties and wraps you can get to conceal them. They also cater to men. Ostomy Secrets is the name of that website.
Wound Care
Ostomys are relatively easy to care for but the pouches and supplies can get expensive. For the first few months you will require a wound nurse to visit your home. After you are comfortable they will not be needed.
There are several styles of pouches so you need to figure what works best for you. Showering with it on or off depends on you. You can still be intimate so do not worry about that.
All you have to do is wash the skin with warm water when you change the wafer. Apply Stoma powder if redness occurs and watch your diet a little bit, chew your food real good and you can practically eat everything you did before or more depending on why you had the surgery.
